how do you sand down a guitar neck?

i want to sand my neck down cause its to thick. after i sand it down how do i re polish or varnish or whatever they do. its a dean vendetta and it isnt a painted neck. but i dont know what they do to seal it or polish varnish or whatever they do to it.. or is it already just bare wood?

The simple answer is - you don't!

Sanding down the neck will destroy it. You will never be able to get it perfectly smooth and even. Replace the neck with a more slender one.
